In ink on the interior of the basket are two swastika like symbols. Tag "Kl. R. Tr. att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket, made for sale. Oval crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is probably hazel. The basket has conifer root wefts. The overlay weft material is beargrass, maidenhair fern, and red-dyed woodwardia. Starting at the starting knot, there is plain twining to the edge of the base, where there are two weft rows of lattice twining. Going up the sides of the basket there are two weft rows of three strand twining, followed by plain twining up to below the rim where there is a single weft row of three strand twining followed by 1/8 inch of openwork parallel warps. At the rim there are two weft rows of plain twining and a reinforcing rod wrapped with a peeled shoot. The main design is four sets of butterfly-like figures that are formed by a central rectangle with two triangles. The basket has a rightward work direction, with an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is single sided, with the design on the exterior. The workface is on the exterior. The basket is from Northwestern California.

The rim appears to be comprised of 1 weft row of twining with reinforcing rods wrapped with beargrass. The main design is three horizontal rows of stepped parallelograms and triangles. The basket has a rightward work direction, with up to the right slant of weft twist. The workface is on the exterior. The overlay is single-sided, on the exterior. The basket is from Northwest California. There is a possible human hair woven into the basket, near the center exterior.

The warp material is probably hazel possibly willow. The wefts are conifer root. The weft overlay is maidenhair and red dyed woodwardia designs with a background of beargrass. On the lid there is a handle made of something like conifer root over a commercial cloth. On the main basket (a) at the starting knot there is 1.5 inches of three strand twining. After that plain twining continues 3 inches to where there are three weft rows of three strand twining. Plain twining continues up to the rim where there are several rows of diagonal twining followed by one row of plain twining at the rim. The main design is geometric zigzags with dark brown horizontal lines within. At the rim there is a horizontal band of triangles. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The workface is on the exterior, with a rightward work direction. The overlay is single sided on the exterior with some design coming through to the interior. The lid (b) has a crossed warp start with three strand twining for 1 inch followed by plain twining until 1 inches from the rim, where there is one row of three strand twining, followed by plain twining to the rim. Starting at the starting knot, there are 2 inches of three strand twining, followed by plain twining to the rim, where there is 1/16th of an inch of parallel warp openwork. The rim is wrapped with beargrass and maidenhair fern. The lid, B), has the same materials and weaving techniques, with the exception of the twining which is from the starting knot: .5 inch of three strand twining, followed by plain twining, followed by a single weft row of three strand twining, the rim is trimmed. The main design on A) and B) is three sets of diagonally stacked parallelograms with vertical lines inside them as well as three sets of diagonal chains of diamonds. The workface is on the exterior.
