Hearst Museum object titled Basket, accession number TB-64, described as Accompanying tag reads: "Basket. Round, flat base, sides incurving, design of stepped triangular elements alternating with vertical diamond elements, in brown on light brown ground";  paper tag with number 12 and 225 pasted on inside. H - 12.7cm. diam. at rim - 13.2cm. 7-19-1995 Basket was found on Washo shelf. L. Dawson states that basket might be Maidu; split stitches but not consistent, maybe split maple shoots.  Per Ralph Shanks: Globular bowl, contracting towards mouth.  Coiled 3 rod basket with redbud and bracken fern root designs.  Background peeled shoot, possibly maple.  Leftward warp direction.  5  interlocked vertical diamonds with center half filled.  Other design of 6-7 peaked mountain like figures, 5 vertical rows of 10 figures.  Weaver hair woven in. Could be 1-72892 based on dimensions but original number does not match.  Original numbering system is consistent with Shoemaker accession 485.

Triangular design in dark brown on natural ground, very discolored overall. 5-2003] 11/20/2008; Per Ralph Shanks:  Tag on basket says 1-70784 but this is incorrect. Also says "Pomo 2 rod coil".  Attribution not clear; very unusual 2 rod foundation on North Central California basket.  Small, flaring bowl, flat bottom. Basket is two-rod coil, foundation unsure, leftward weave direction with plain wrapped rim.  Design is 3 sets of parallelograms made of dyed bullrush root and sedge root background, diagonally arranged and split.

Sedgeroot weft, red bud design, willow warp sticks.  One band of triangle designs, one band of parallelograms, one band of rectangular designs, and another band of rectangles in red/brown on a natural ground.   Dau on top design.

Small round shells sewn randomly around the rim with several shells missing. On shelf with Pomo baskets. 5-2003. Per Ralph Shanks:  Single rod coiled oval "boat shaped" basket decorated with clam shell disk beads.  Sedge root weft background brown to black dyed bulrush root designs. Rectangles in intersecting diagonal lines.  Several missing beads. Pomo.

Basket has a burn hole at rim. Found on shelf with Pomo baskets. 5-2003]  Note with basket reads, "Found on Pomo shelf".   Two baskets were found with the number 1-4091; the description of materials in Supplementary Catalog #1 mentions a redbud design.  Redbud is used in the other basket numbered 1-4091 but not in this basket.  Therefore, the other basket is considered 1-4091 and this basket is a lost number. 11/20/2008; Per Ralph Shanks:  Pomo; round twined basket with flaring sides, band of designs in brown on natural ground; reinforced twining at rim and base.  Start is 3 strand twining for at 2 cm.; lattice twining for 3 cm., the rest is plain twining. Sedgeroot weft, brown designs may be another color of sedgeroot.  Used for culinary purposes: winnowing/parching.  Basket has a burn hole at rim.

Found on shelf with Pomo baskets. 5-2003] 11/20/2008; Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined Pomo winnowing tray done in plain twinning with 3 bands of lattice twinning.  Materials are sedge root background with 3 bands of redbud designs.  Single row of three strand twinning at the rim.  Warp sticks are probably willow.  Burned on the bottom.  Redbud designs are horizontal (from bottom) parallelograms, rectangles and top design with downward pointing triangles.

Found on shelf with Pomo baskets. 5-2003]. Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled single rod flaring bowl decorated with clamshell disc beads sewn on with cordage/string.  Leftward work direction, black bracken fern root designs, zigzag design.  Twined starting knot. Matches 1-4113  materials and has shell beads, but not definite.
