Badly damaged at base. Split at one side.  Tag:  "Klamath R. Tribes Att." Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined basket tray, perhaps a flour/ sifting tray. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot.  The warp material is probably willow. The background weft is conifer root.  The weft overlay is beargrass.  At the starting knot there is .5 inch of three strand twining, followed by 1.5 inches of plain twining, followed by one weft row of three strand twining.  After that plain twining continues until 1 inch below the rim, where there is one weft row of three strand twining, after which plain twining continues to the rim. Above the base are two horizontal bands of alternating beargrass.  The main design is a band of connected triangles in conifer root with a solid beargrass background, with two bands of alternating beargrass and conifer root above and below.   At the rim there is another band of conifer root triangles.  The basket has an interior workface with a rightward work direction. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist.  The overlay is primarily on the inside.  The rim is trimmed.  The basket is from Northwestern California.
