Deergrass bundle foundation. The basket has a central design band with a mottled juncus design of tan and orange wefts with bands of black dyed juncus at the top and the bottom. The wefts above and below the design band are sumac. The basket has an interior workface and the work direction is to the right. The weft fag ends are bound under. The rim is plain wrapped with the coil ending tapered with some backstitching. The basket is from Southwestern California, the design is common with the Luiseño.

Red pattern is Chain fern (Adiantum pedatum) in Alder (Alnus rubra). Rim bound with grape (Vitus californica). Small, twined. Grimy from use. Hoop broken in one spot. 2-faced red and white overlay. All-over stepped design. Below rim, a white band with a geometric motif repeated. Mostly plain twining. 3-strand twining occurs from the bottom up 7 cm; also the two top rows. Hoop stitched to the top. Inside the bottom scaffolding remains the bottom 12 cm. The packstrap is of blue denim and is tied on with buckskin thongs.
