Hearst Museum object titled Bag, accession number 2-48467, described as Bandoleer bag (shoulder pouch); fully beaded face except for panel below shoulder strap; cotton cloth lining is blue with floral design on lower half; broad band or baldric has white ground with multicolor floral beadwork designs; pouch has white ground with multicolor floral design; floral design beadwork on blue velvet in panel above pouch; base of pouch trimmed with large beads and wool yarn. Glass trade beads.

Design includes portrait, inscription "EL HADJI DIORI HAMANI" and "REPUBLIQUE DU NIGER," 2 lines of Arabic writing, armoral emblems in both upper corners. Color: yellow, white, grey and black on burgundy ground with abstract fur design, trim around edges. Length 115 centimeters, width 80 centimeters (upper end). From Niger (unspecified). Context of use: Collector Kate Delos cut the textile into its present shape and used it for decoration in her own house. Backing put on by Delos, removed at museum. This "Diori Hamani cloth" is an example of a Niger "motif cloth." Diori Hamani was the first president of Niger after independence declared in 1960.
