Made of 2 pieces of woolen textile sewn together. 6 wide woven rectangular pattern bands forming an “X” are separated by narrow warp stripes.  Pink/black/whit/orange/red/green.  Fringe band is red & white w/ multicolored fringe in 3cm colored sections.  A 1 “ wide woven tape has been sewn around the edge of the poncho.Embroidered center seam. Overall 142 cm x 86cm. Woven segment 129.5cm x 71cm.  Fringe band 8cm. Both pieces show mark of back strap loom.
Hearst Museum object titled Serape, accession number 3-30215, described as RGM yardage, 37 inches wide by 16 feet, fabric is very heavy cotton (?), ends of yardage are marked by bands of white and red or gold and red; color bands run width and are of Kelly green, royal blue or purple, between bands of ikot made with red/black threads; one of the ikot patterns appears to be of women.
