Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-70209, described as Coiled, oval shape.  Tag "Mission Type Oval". Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled oval basket bowl.  Deergrass bundle foundation.  The design wefts are orange, tan, and black dyed juncus.  The background wefts are sumac.  The design is a band of a diamond net with crosses inside the diamonds.  The design is outlined with a single band of black dyed juncus at the bottom and at the top.  The basket has an oval starting knot.  The basket has an exterior workface with a rightward work direction.  The weft fag ends are clipped.  The rim is plain wrapped with a tapered coil ending.  Due to the technique and materials the attribution is Cahuilla.

Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled globular basket bowl.  The basket has a grass bundle foundation.  The background material is sumac.  The design materials are black dyed juncus.  The design is a horizontal band of two stacked diamonds.  The basket has an exterior workface and is woven in a rightward work direction.  The weft fag ends are predominately clipped with some tucked.  The rim is plain wrapped with a tapered coil ending.  The mixed use of clipped and tucked fag ends and the materials used makes this likely to be a Cahuilla basket.  The design however is common in Luiseño baskets, which rarely have clipped fag ends.
Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-70151, described as Coiled, plate shape.  Tag "Mission Type". Second cloth tag on base "4". Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled flaring basket bowl.  The coil foundation is deergrass bundle.  The background wefts are orange, tan and black dyed juncus, as well as sumac.  The design is a five pointed star/flower repeated in various colors. The basket has an interior workface with clipped, tucked, and concealed weft fag ends, and a rightward work direction.  The rim is plain wrapped and the coil ending is tapered.  Due to the clipped weft fag ends and the use of materials the basket is attributed to the Cahuilla.

Black and yellow colors are Rush (Juncus) dyed in Suaeda and Parosela. With decoration of one single broad band in light brown bordered by black. Old, bottom broken and repaired with leather.

Tag on side bottom "Cahuilla" and on the bottom "No. 27[?] Property of Mrs. George H. Taylor Fresno, Cal." Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled burden/storage basket.  Deergrass bundle foundation.  Weft designs are black dyed juncus and orange juncas. The background wefts appears to be tan juncus.  The design is a band of orange juncus surrounded  above and below by bands of black dyed juncus undulations.  One short line of black dyed juncus is at the side.  The basket has an interior workface with a rightward work direction.  The start is tightly woven.  The weft fag ends are bound under. The rim is plain wrapped with a herringbone ending, with the very end missing.  Based on the techniques, design, and materials,  this basket is from the Cahuilla.
