Hearst Museum object titled Vase, accession number 9-13398, described as Vase, porcelain, blue and white. Tall narrow cylindrical vase with short narrow neck and foot; high shoulder. Underglaze blue, linear depiction of portions of dragon appearing out of sprayed spots of dark blue 'clouds'. Most of white ground covered. Interior plain. 4 character reign mark of K'ang Hsi reign (1662-1722) within double circle. Surface very glossy. One glaze bubble in side that has been filed down. Height 19.2 cm. Max diameter 9.5 cm.

Others in background kneeling around perimeter. Various trees, mountains, waterfall etc. in background. Brocade banner with half-sun or chrysanthemum and clouds crest. H. 61.5cm Porcelain-like ceramic with raised slip or enamel design - moriage i.e. the thin lines. GOld or colored enamel raised dots known as "coralene beading." Gold, coral-red and blue predominate with white, green, brown and beige. "Satsuma ware" of this type with raised designs of human figures, etc. known contemptuously as Yokohama muke i.e for export [only]. Manufactured in various places including Kyoto, Awaji, Yokohama, Awati, and Tokyo. Sometimes decorating studios purchased the glazed bodies for decoration and muffle firing. Commonly made in pairs, popular in Victorian households. Exported from 1865- ca. 1930. See 9-14966.
