: Hearst Museum object titled Mitten, accession number 2-56542a, described as Mitten, part of a pair; deer hide with beaver cuffs; varicolored floral glass bead decoration outside only; lined with white “duffle” wool; tied tog. with plaited red and blue wool yarn with red, white, blue tassels; length each 31.5 cm. Used by men and women in winter. Beadwork probably from up the coast (Attawapiskat). Yarn used around shoulder so you can take off gloves without loosing them. Native name: isstashits.

Decorative panel, covering toe area, is of black cloth, with white, blue-grey, blue, orange, pink, red, yellow, and light green beads and small metal discs sewn on in a floral design. Badly frayed and many of the beads are falling off.
