Tags "Klamath R. Tribes Att.". Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined cooking basket, used.  Crossed warp starting knot.  The warp material is probably willow. The wefts are conifer root.  The weft overlay is beargrass.  At the starting knot there is .75 inch of three strand twining followed by 2 inches of plain twining, followed by one weft row of three strand twining. Plain twining continues until 2 inches below the rim, where two weft rows of lattice twining are separated by one row of plain twining.  Plain twining continues until the rim, which is trimmed.  The main design is located above and below the lattice twining.  The design is a repeating pattern consisting of a pentagon with a triangle on the point.  The overlay is primarily on the exterior, although a separate pattern is evident on the back face.  There is an original repair on the base. The basket has an exterior workface.  The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist, and a rightward work direction.  The basket is from Northwestern California, the shape of this basket is common among the Yurok.

Two design bands of zigzag, one band of diagonal hatching, broad band of alternating pine root and xerophyllum tenax, similar narrower band near base of basket.  Hazel shoot warps exposed 1.1 cm below the mouth.  Tag "Klamath River Tribes Unsp.".  Cloth tag "124". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined tobacco basket, missing the lid.  The warps are crossed at the starting knot.  The warp material is probably hazel.  The wefts are conifer root with beargrass overlay.  At the base there is plain twining to the edge, where there is one weft row of three strand twining.  Plain twining then continues to just below the rim, where there are exposed warps, followed by three weft rows of plain twining, and the last weft row is three strand twining. The design begins at the edge of the base, with alternating beargrass; the next design is two horizontal zigzag lines in conifer root above and below a horizontal row of slashes.  At the rim there are vertical lines of beargrass and conifer root alternating.  The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist.  The basket has a rightward work direction with an exterior workface.  The basket is from Northwestern California.  The beargrass design is typical of tobacco baskets from Northwest California.

The wefts are bulrush and sedge root.  The start is a tight spiral.  The basket has an exterior workface.  The basket has a leftward work direction, with an up to the right slant of weft twist. The weft fag ends are concealed.  The weft moving ends are bound down.  The basket has a plain wrapped rim with a slightly tapered coil end.  There is one design and it is diagonally crossing lines of joined triangles.  The basket is from the east side of the Sacramento valley, and is from the Valley Maidu.
