Context of use: Made by girls and warriors and married men or whoever finds cartridges; Worn by anyone on 3rd finger on left hand. However married men and warriors wear it on the middle finger of right hand. Description: Ring; bullet cartridge setting; black leather ring. H=3 cm. W=1.5 cm. File code: 5.2 Collector: Jean Colvin. Donor: Jean Colvin. Materials, techniques: Bark of arge tree and roots of Hoonde tree crushed and put inside a small piece of goat skin. Sew it closed and decorate. Context of use: Worn by warriors (and unmarried girls??) attached to bottom of a necklace. Made by girls for their boyfriends. Description: Amulet- round ball with 4 vertical double rows of small orange beads between multiple horizontal rows of black beads- protrusion on top with white, green and red beads and chain with 2 aluminum discs hanging from bottom. Hearst Museum object titled Belt, accession number 3-30016, described as Backstrap loomed, warp faced plain weave; single-faced supp. weft brocading; one piece; warp ends cut; last 8.5" of warps on each end braided together and knotted off to create fringes. 215.5 x 6.5 cm. Woman's belt. Cotton: 1 two-ply in dark green; 1 three- ply in light green; 2 two-ply in black and white. Mercerized cotton: 5 two-ply in magenta, dark and light blue, purple, red, orange, yellow, pink and green. Very desirable fajas; women from many nearby departments buy fajas from Totonicapan, noted for their quality. Green borders, black and white warps and multicolored continuous bands of single-faced supp. weft brocading. Iconography consists of geometrics, birds, human, and urns with plants. Blues, greens, purples on one half with reds, oranges, yellows, and other colors on remaining half of faja. Zone of black and white warps as on on reverse side, occurs before the fringe.
