Two carved ivory figures (a) woman bathing at bucket; seated, washing face w/ right hand and holding bucket w/ left. Hair is represented by incised lines and painted black. Black on top has worn off. Red on lips. Bottom of bucket is separate, attached piece. (b) is of small boy, also seated before bucket holding wash cloth up w/ right hand, holding cup in other, and looking to one side. Red on lips and cloth. Black on bucket. Bucket has been attached. H. (a) 3.4 cm., (b) 2.6cm.
Hearst Museum object titled Netsuke, accession number 9-12533, described as Carving, cabinet pc.: Carved ivory figure. One of a set of 5: (9-12532-36). Represents Benten, (the female member of the seven gods of good luck (shichifukujin). She is kneeling one hand raised to her mouth, the other at her waist, w/ hole in it - probably held fan or biwa (lute). Characteristic of Benten, a garment fillet surrounds her head. Her Kimono has a 'willow' pattern. H. 3.1 cm.
Hearst Museum object titled Netsuke, accession number 9-12566, described as Figure, cast metal representing monkey holding aloft a large peach. The peach appears to have been cast separately and attached. The fur is represented by short incised or stamped lines. A few holes from the casting have been filled. The metal is dark, dull grey, probably a lead alloy. H. 6cm.

One paw is raised, the other rests on the smooth, large distended belly. The back, legs, and face are carved in the angular style. A few short, deep incised lines represent the fur. Elaborate signature on bottom. Cord hole through one fore leg. H. 5cm. Base Dia. 4.5  cm.

Represents kneeling woman holding box on lap, and boy standing next to her, carved from same piece of wood. Ivory heads and hands. The box has a sliding top. Within is a blue stained piece of ivory. The ivory heads are smooth and simple; the hair of the woman is incised and painted black. Eyes painted black. Hand of boy is missing. Womans hands are flat and crude. The 'textile' designs are formed by simple groups of dots and lines. H. 4.5 cm.

Hearst Museum object titled Netsuke, accession number 9-12532, described as Carving, cabinet pc.: Carved ivory figure, one of a set of five (9-12532-36). The figure possibly of jurojin (god of longevity) kneels on one leg, and holds a staff in the right hand (attached, separately carved). He has 1 a long flowing beard, small cap on head, and large bow knot tied at shoulder. 'Textile' designs on robes consist of diamonds and 'checkerboard' pattern. Carving is detailed, facial features distinct. Depressions of surface stained dark. H. 3 cm.
