Hearst Museum object titled Mask, accession number 11-45515, described as carved wooden mask decorated with painted designs (red, white, black) over entire face.  eyes of shell are inlaid.  eyebrows are built up using red clay then decorated with tiny cowry shells and paint.  eyelashes of wool yarn are attached to the lower edge of each brow.  a decorative horn (boar's tooth?) surrounded by a shallow come of clay embellished with tiny cowry shells decorates the center of the forehead.  a long, pendulous nose is decorated with boar teeth and clay cones inset with tiny cowry shells on each side and a feather tassel hanging from the tip.  each cheek is decorated with a clay cone inset with tiny cowry shells and a spiral shell which has been cut in half.  mouth and chin are formed by a raised clay application 33 cm long with a round mouth at tip, and a round, cone-like chin inset with a spiral shell cut in half.  brow is decorated with a yellowish wool band and "hair is of feathers" - likely cormorant.  tiny ears at each side of head are decorated with rectangles of palm stem and a single cowry shell.  the entire mask is surrounded by a band of full sized cowry shells and a narrow raffia ruff (brown) 6.0 cm wide.  at top is a carved wooden loop laced with bamboo for hanging.
