Hearst Museum object titled Saddlebag, accession number 9-23758, described as Saddlebag. Made from a strip for a dividing curtain. Body of strip brown and white sheep wool plain weave with tooth and check patterns. Brown (black?) probably is goat hair. Weft twined panels at each end, 6.5" - 8" wide. Pattern in twining all triangles in red, orange, blue, and green. Braids leading to tassels in 4-strand flat, made of corded warp ends. It had been made into double saddle bag by folding over itself, creating 3 thicknesses of fabric with twining on the front. The "bag" had been created by whip-stitching the folds. The faggotting stitches which held it to the other stripes of dividing curtain had been cut and were still on it. Bags are 19" deep. Commercial dye used. Plain weave, weft twining, braids, and tassels, 11-12 EPI. Ends braided and tasseled. Tassels beautifully made, wrapped with same colors as twining. Wrapping 1" high. Black and white plain weave in 2 strips, sewn together with faggotting.

Dark blue, yellow, green, and red stripes. Edges bound with other fabric to make bags. The 2 bags connected by continuous warp strands which are intertwined to form a netting between the bags. The saddle bags gather shut with cords. 83 x 24 cm square.)
