Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled shallow bowl.  Not used.  It has a deergrass bundle foundation.  The wefts are sumac and orange, natural and black-dyed juncus.  The design is a central six pointed geometric element and three floral designs on the sides.  The basket has a pin-hole starting knot. The basket has an interior workface with a rightward work direction. The weft fag ends are bound under.  The coil ending is tapered.

The shape is similar to a traditional winnowing basket.  Deergrass bundle coil foundation.  Wefts are orange juncus background, with black dyed juncus and light sumac designs.  The designs are geometric.  Workface is on the interior, with a rightward work direction.  Bound under weft fag ends. The basket has a plain wrapped rim with a tapered coil ending with a herringbone stitch.

The basket has an interior workface with a rightward work direction and bound under weft fag ends.  The coil rim is plain wrapped with two backstitches at the coil ending.

Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket bowl.  Crossed warp starting knot, slightly indented.  Warp material is hazel.  Background weft is conifer root.  The weft design overlay is beargrass and maidenhair fern stem.  At the starting knot there is an inch of three strand twining.  After that is plain twining for .5 inch.  After that two weft rows of three strand twining.  Plain twining continues until the rim where there are three rows of three strand twining.  The design on the base is a ring of black and tan spiral overlay.  That is followed by one ring of maidenhair fern.  On the sides there are three sets of a diagonal stacked parallelograms outlined by stepped triangles.  At the rim is a ring of alternating beargrass and maidenhair fern.  The basket has an exterior workface with a rightward work direction.   The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist.  The overlay is only on the outside.  There is a hair woven into the basket.  The basket is from Northwest California.
Hearst Museum object titled Basket tray, accession number 1-70120, described as Coiled, deep tray.  Tag "Mission Type". Per Ralph Shanks: Broad bowl, with flaring sides.  May have been used.  Deergrass bundle foundation.  Wefts are sumac at the base and primarily juncus on the sides.  The designs are sumac and juncus, natural, orange, and black-dyed.  The designs are two rings of black juncus at the base and on the sides are four sets of diagonal chains of three trapezoids with two slashes in the middle.  The basket has an interior workface with a rightward work direction and bound under weft fag ends.  The coil rim is plain wrapped with a two inch long herringbone ending.

Mission type Snake" Per Ralph Shanks: Coiled shallow basket bowl with rattlesnake design.  Deergrass bundle foundation, basket start has shredded fibers as the bundle.  Sumac weft on the bottom.  On sides the weft is natural orange, tan, and black dyed juncus.  Bound under weft fag ends.  The basket has a plain wrapped rim.

Deergrass bundle foundation with some juncus rods.  The background wefts are tan juncus with some sumac at the start.  The design wefts are black dyed juncus.  The central design is three vertical geometric bands of black dyed juncus.  At the base there are six concentric circles with starting knot wefts of black dyed juncus.  Three coils below the rim there is one coil of black dyed juncus wefts.  The basket has an interior workface and the work direction is to the right.  There are many weft fag ends that are clipped at the design edge and the fag ends are bound under elsewhere.  The rim is plain wrapped with a broken coil ending. The basket is either Cahuilla or Gabrielino based on the weft fag ends, the materials, and the design.  There is a hair woven in at the interior side of the basket.
