Hearst Museum object titled Treasure basket, accession number 1-164425, described as Twined, sub-globular, small; alternating red and straw-color lines in diagonal twining technique. Tag "Klamath River Tribes Att." Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket bowl. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot, indented. The warp material is probably willow. The background weft is conifer root. The weft overlay is beargrass and red dyed woodwardia fern. At the starting knot there is 3 strand twining for .5 inch followed by 1.5 inches of diagonal twining, followed by one weft row of three strand twining. After that diagonal twining continues until the rim where there are two weft rows of three strand twining. The design is a band of slanted stripes of alternating beargrass and red dyed woodwardia. The basket has an exterior workface with a rightward work direction. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is only on the outside. The rim has the warp sticks sticking up above the rim, and are trimmed evenly. It is an uncommon basket, as very few baskets in Northwestern California are made of mostly diagonal twining. There is a hair woven into the basket.

The warp material is possibly hazel or willow. The background weft is conifer root. The weft overlay is beargrass and maiden hair fern. At the starting knot there is 1 inch of three strand twining. After that plain twining, that has bear grass overlay, for 1 inch followed by 2 rows of three strand twining. After that there is plain twining until the rim where there is 2 weft rows of three strand twining. The design includes a band of alternating diagonal black and tan lines on the base. The primary design is four diamonds with diagonal stripes inside them and surrounded by triangles. At the rim there another row of alternating diagonal black and tan lines. The basket has an exterior workface with a rightward work direction. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is only on the outside. The rim is trimmed, and is unraveling. The basket is from Northwest California, possibly Yurok or Wiyot based on the design.

After that plain twining, that has beargrass overlay, for 1 inch followed by 3 rows of three strand twining, that have no overlay. After that there is plain twining until the rim where there are 4 weft rows of three strand twining. The design is six alternating sets of six triangles with a bar along the top or bottom. The basket has an exterior workface with a rightward work direction. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is only on the outside. The rim is trimmed. The basket is from Northwest California.

The weft material is conifer root. The weft overlay design is in beargrass, maidenhair fern, and red-dyed woodwardia. Starting at the starting knot, there is 3/4 inch of three strand twining, followed by 1.25 inches of plain twining, followed by 2 weft rows of three strand twining. Plain twining continues to the rim where there is 1 weft row of three strand twining, followed by 1/4 inch of crossed warp openwork, followed by a reinforced wrapped rim. The rim is wrapped with beargrass. The main design is comprised of six alternating triangles with smaller triangles on each side. The workface is on the exterior. The overlay is single-sided, with the design on the exterior. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist and a rightward work direction. The basket is from Northwest California.
