Coiled, goblet-shaped. Maroon designs in redbud with background of sedge root. Diagonally overstitched rim. The tag has Maidu crossed out. Per Ralph Shanks: Coiled goblet-shaped basket, made by sewing two baskets together. The following description is of both baskets unless otherwise noted. The baskets have a three rod foundation. The baskets have sedge background wefts. The designs are in redbud. The design includes diamonds at the base and the upper part of the basket has four designs made up of triangles and a redbud line under the rim. The baskets have an exterior workface and a leftward work direction with concealed weft fag ends. On the interior the stitches are split. The rims are both functional and decorative, formed by alternating stitches, the coil ending is tapered. The techniques and materials indicate either Valley Maidu or Patwin origin.
