Description:
Black and white negative of people working in the rice fields of Ceylon. Hoefler's original description: "Island of Ceylon. Both men and women work in the rice fields of Ceylon, a job which requires a strong back and a water-proof hide. The terraced rice fields with the little walls of dirt built up to retain the water, give the landscape an appearance of a crazy quilt, but adds a picturesque touch to this Isle of Enchantment.
