Comment:
Presented to U.C.M.A.[now the Hearst Museum of Anthropology] in public ceremony, March 28, 1957. Recovered in skin-diving operations carried on in the summer of 1956 off Cape Creus. Sunken trading ship lay in 80 feet of water, 125 feet off shore. Many amphora found. Approximately 40 amphora were considered in good enough condition by collector to be retained. Others discarded (subsequently found in pavement?). See accession envelope #1202). Some bore mark ---- (see cat. for figure). Trader's name possibly SESTIUS.
