- Piece of kava root. A supply of kava root is always kept on hand at the chief’s house. Failure by a chief to comply with the customary presentation of kava led to loss of prestige and, often, removal from a position of authority. (UCLMA 11-1645, 1658). Exhibited 1978 Settlement of Polynesia
