Twined mush basket. 6 rows of alternating triangle designs. Tag on interior "Klamath R. Tribes Att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket bowl, probably not used. Double sided overlay. Crossed warp starting knot. Conifer root weft. The design overlay is beargrass, red dyed woodwardia, and maiden hair fern stem. The warp sticks are possibly willow or probably hazel. The designs are in red and white alternating right triangles. On the base the overlay is only on the outside, with one ring of red. At the starting knot there is about an inch of three strand twining, it then switches to plain twining until the edge of the base where there are five rows of three strand twining, turning again to plain twining up until the rim where there are at least two rows of three strand twining. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist with an exterior workface. This basket could possibly be a Whilkut basket but is at least from Northwestern California.
