Cast of head of Plato. From a marble in the Museum of Aix, France. Presumably found in Aix. Few of the heads called Plato are true portraits. The identity of his features was probably uncertain in later Antiquity, A bearded Dionysos from Herculaneum in the Naples Museum is popularly called Plato. Helbig identified a good portrait in the house of Pirro Ligorio, Rome, by the aid of a mutilated head in Berlin which has the inscription [drawn symbol]
