Comment:
Ichimatsu ot "stone paver" design in which warps and wefts alternate. Presumably the basket base made of cryptomeria bark was completed and then birch bark strips woven under the surface of all the warps and wefts. On the rear of the basket are 4.5, 7.5 and 10cm long sections of birchbark warps which probably were intended to protect the carrier's clothes when carrying the basket. They would have minimized friction. No evidence of a cord. No loops or holes on the surface of the basket so it was probably carried with an all-purpose rope.
