Coiled imbricated oval shaped basket with one rawhide loop handle and another which is missing on the opposite side evidenced by two holes. Darkened interior, imbrication of lighter color brown/tan on exterior in a double stepped pattern. Tag on basket says, "Klikitat basket, used for a time as waste paper basket in the office. Was originally numbers 5783W and 260. Was once cataloged but tag has been lost. Check with location catalog. Original Nos both red stickers and white ink are C.P. Welcomb style, etcc 334." And in different handwriting, "Basket 2-25 has similar and ? original numbers 57? and 261 red border tag etcc." Basket has 5783.W. in white ink on bottom and a red bordered oval sticker with 260. 11/20/2008; per Ralph Shanks; description accurate, from west of the Dalles, Western Washington; not Klikitat.
