Description:
Sword, knife and sheaths. (a) Sword, deer antler handle with carved open mouths (?); plaited rattan and pitch at hilt. Length 60 cm. (b) Wood sheath with rattan bands; has slot of palm leaf spathe bark for (c). Length 50 cm. (c) Palmwood knife with iron blade. Length 41 cm. Sheath has plaited fiber cord. “All men and boys throughout Borneo and Kalimantan possess ‘mandaus,’ and they are frequently worn and always available. This ‘mandau’ was owned by the river trader Jui Gun and traded with me for my U.S. made sleeping mat.” Compare with 18-1285
