Label (detached and glued to cardboard and forced between stretcher and canvas, April 18, 1975) "Curly - Custer's famous scout, and the only man to escape that battle. A morose, taciturn sort of fellow and disinclination to make friends, and rarely talks or pays much attention to anyone. He will not talk of the battle and seems to have been greatly affected by it." Backed with corrugated board, good condition, paint surface directly against glass. One in a series from life in oil by J. H. Sharp, mainly Crow, Cheyenne, Blackfoot, Sioux, and Rio Grande Pueblo portraits.
