Description:

Hat; twined. Warp is Hazel (Corylus cornuta californica), weft is Sugar pine (Pinus lambertiana). White pattern is Beargrass (Xerophyllum tenax). Black pattern is Maidenhair fern (Adiantum pedatum). Woman's basketry hat ornamented with horizontal bars. Old, worn, and dirty. Plain twined, with 3 - strand twining at start and with single rows defining design zones. Single faced overlay.
