Context of use:
Purchased in Tehuacan market, sold in a set to be incorporated into plain white blouse (camisa). This smocking appears to have been made in a number of Nuhuatl speaking villages in teh Valley of Puebla-Tlaxcala. This piece is of a type that began to be sold in tourist shops in Mexico City in the 1950's and is probably from a different village than the older pieces according to Alejandro de Avila Blomberg, 1984.
