Incense box (?), lacquer, for use in incense ceremony; short, round, flat bottom, straight sides; of wood turned on a lathe. Lid is slightly wider than the bottom. Lid is decorated with 2 geese in flight; in slight gold relief (hiramakie), on a very dark brown ground. A 'moon' overhead is formed by a half disk of dull brown-gray lacquer on edge, above the geese. Interior and bottom are coated with a glossy, black lacquer. Wood grain shows slightly. Many scratches in the surface. Height 3.5 cm; Diameter 8 cm.
