Description:
Mortar basket. Warp is Willow (Salix), weft is yellow Pine. White pattern is Beargrass (Xerophyllum tenax). Red pattern is Redbud (Cercis occidentalis). Similar (to 1-16549?); "mortar basket" added to card in pen. Braided work at edge. Grimy and worn from use. 2-faced overlay, red (redbud) and white. Zigzag designs in horizontal band; stripes above. 3-strand twining below band; the rest is plain twined. 2 hoops are lattice-twined to the outside at 6.5 - 7 cm above the bottom. The warp ends have been twined together to form rim.
