Draped with robe, sleeves covering shoulders. Bottom is flat, rectangle. Cord hole in bottom of base. Very smooth, simple appearance.

Hearst Museum object titled Netsuke, accession number 9-12534, described as Carving, cabinet pc.: Carved ivory figure of Hotei one of the Seven Gods of good luck. (Shichifuku jin) He is depicted seated, laughing, holding a flat Chinese fan (uchiwa) w/ his left hand, his right hand raised to his chin. The head is bald. The eyes and eyebrows are painted black. Is loosely robed, large belly exposed. Cross-hatch and grass pattern on his garment. H. 3 cm.

Standing man, probably a street entertainer, holds pipe, sake bottle, and possibly a hand puppet hanging from one arm. Monkey on top of pack on back, with outstretched paws holding cup. Kneeling figure holds pipe to mouth, and supports box from neck which has inscription “tamaya”. Fine incised details such as ‘textile’ designs on clothing. Cord hole on back between the men. Ivory is yellow; details stained dark.

Button has 2 cord holes and a 2-character signature. Fine carving and detail.
Image Missing: Hearst Museum object titled Netsuke, accession number 9-12520, described as Carved wood in form of three ‘mystic’ monkeys - “see, hear, speak no evil” (Sambiki Saru), sitting on each others shoulders in a vertical column. Iwazaru with hands over mouth, sits atop Kikazaru who holds ears. Nizaru sits on bottom, covering eyes. Somber eyes are represented by tiny inlaid black stones. Fine incised lines for fur. Smooth faces, worn a lighter color, the rest stained dark brown.
Hearst Museum object titled Netsuke, accession number 9-12536, described as Carving / Cabinet Piece: Carved ivory figure of Fukurokujiu one of the Seven Gods of luck. (Shichifukujin). He is depicted sitting, holding an open scroll facing away (said to contain entries of the destinies of human life). He has a long flowing beard, and elongated bald cranium. 'Bamboo leaf' pattern on his garment. H. 3 cm.
